Knowledge about dental wear

Dentistry never stands still. New insights, materials and treatment methods follow each other in rapid succession. At Veemarkt Dental Practice, we find it essential to stay ahead. This is why our team recently attended the webinar "Dental wear of permanent elements" of our professional association KNMT with great interest.

Dental wear is an increasingly common topic in the treatment room, and it has our full attention.

Why is this important to you?
Tooth wear is an insidious process. It can be caused by acids in food and drinks (erosion), but also by teeth grinding or clenching (attrition). In the beginning, you often notice little, but over time it can lead to:

  • Sensitive teeth (when eating/drinking cold or hot).
  • Change in the appearance of the teeth (shorter or more transparent teeth).
  • Problems with chewing.

What did we learn?
This continuing education focused on the latest knowledge on diagnosis and treatment. The most important lesson we took away to practice is the importance of timely intervention.

Thanks to the knowledge gained, we can:

  • Recognize wear and tear at an earlier stage: Even before it hurts you.
  • Getting a better handle on the cause: Is it teeth grinding or still that glass of orange juice in the morning?
  • Minimally invasive treatment: Modern dentistry focuses on restoration while preserving as much of your own tooth tissue as possible. With modern techniques (such as composite), we can often restore wear and tear beautifully and permanently without, or with minimal, drilling.

Prevention is better than cure
In addition to repairing damage, with this new knowledge we now focus even more strongly on prevention. During the check-up, we not only look at the state of your teeth, but also analyze with you the risk factors in your lifestyle. Think of detecting hidden acids in your diet or identifying stress factors that lead to unconscious clenching. By giving you practical tools and personal advice, we try to stop or slow down the process of wear and tear before an intervention is needed at all.

Continuing to learn for your smile
Our participation in this webinar underscores our broader vision: dentistry is a profession of "lifelong learning. By continuously updating our knowledge, we guarantee that you will always benefit from the latest scientific insights in our practice. Thus, together we ensure that your teeth remain strong, functional and radiant not only now, but also in the distant future.
